Grand Funk Railroad - Red Album [1969]

This record, their second and finest, was recorded in only two days during October, 1969. It's as live as a studio record can be. Red Album was the Grand Funk Railroad in all their raw, nasty, high energy, live sounding power trio madness. Indeed, on "In Need," you can hear Farner stop playing guitar, then start playing harmonica, then stop again before coming back in with his guitar The band is in a groove throughout. This is simple but powerful music.

3. High Falootin' Woman 3:02

Buffalo - Volcanic Rock [1973]

Buffalo were easily Australia's heaviest band. With the powerful voice of David Tice and the powerful rhythm sections enhanced by the crunchy guitar sound by Baxter made this album the band's finest moment. If you like your rock heavy, this is for you!
The introduction to 'Sunrise (Come My Way)' confirms that the band have come a long way since their debut album. Fantastic guitar lines shooting over a blues-rock riff that just totally cooks. Awesome song. 'Shylock' is another great out and out rocker with an even heavier riff. Faster than Black Sabbath, and heavier than Led Zeppelin these two tracks are guaranteed to blow away any self respecting early 70s hard rock fan.

1. Sunrise (Come My Way)
2. Freedom
3. Till My Death
4. Prophet, The

Flower Travellin' Band - Satori [1971]

Prime Japanese cult band! Heavy in every sense of the word, truly psychedelic stuff! They played grand, spacey, tripped-out hard rock with a riffy base that was only two steps removed from the blues, but their manner of interpreting those steps came from an acid trip. Flower Travelling Band was an entity unto itself.

Rock n roll presents:

1. Satori, Pt. 1 (5:22)
2. Satori, Pt. 2 (7:02)
3. Satori, Pt. 3 (10:39)

Lucifer's Friend - Lucifer's Friend [1970]

This German hard rock machine, with British belter John Lawton, (later of Uriah Heep) gave birth to one of the best heavy rock albums of the early 70's. From the screaming vocals of "Ride In The Sky" (with its brass opening reminiscent of Zeppelin's "The Immigrant Song" and an almost "thrash metal" riff) to the progressive/hard R&B of "Toxic Shadows", to the lumbering, Sabbathish doom of "Keep Goin", this album never lets up for a second. Fans of Black Sabbath, Uriah Heep, Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin must have this in their collection! Lawton is one of the best singers in hard rock, and the musicianship of the group is tremendous. Very heavy indeed for a 1971 release.

Rock n roll presents:

01 - Ride in the Sky
02 - Everybody's Clown
03 - Keep Goin'
04 - Toxic Shadows
05 - Free Baby
06 - Baby You're a Liar

08 - Lucifer's Friend
09 - Rock 'N' Roll Singer
10 - Satyr's Dance

Thin Lizzy - Live And Dangerous [1978]

This double live set, cut at a London venue, captures the essence of Thin Lizzy's style -- powerful, frenzied rock'n'roll. In all there are 19 cuts, and in the foreground there is always the unique, raspy talk/sing vocals of Phil Lynott, one of rock's most identifiable since "The Boys Are Back In Town." The pace is mostly feverish and highlighted by choleric rock guitar and drum interplay that slows down only occasionally for a ballad-like tune. The sound quality from the mobile recording equipment is also top notch.

Rock n roll presents:

1. Jailbreak
2. Emerald
3. Southbound
4. Rosalie / Cowgirl's Song
5. Dancing in the Moonlight
6. Massacre
7. Still in Love With You

16. Baby Drives Me Crazy
17. The Rocker

Leaf Hound - Growers Of Mushroom [1971]

Great riff-bases hard rock with elements of blues and progressive.
If you love early Led Zeppelin,Black Sabbath, and other great 60/70 hard rock bands you would love this record.
It's sad that the record company waited a year to release this LP in 1971 since this was recorded in 1970. The band split between those dates so they didn't tour to support the album and no one bought it.
It's also recommended for all live records fans because this album was recorded in 11 hours studio marathon... so it sounds almost live.

Rock n roll presents:

1- Freelance Fiend
2- Sad Road To The Sea
3- Drowned My Life In Fear
4- Work My Body
5- Stray
6- With A Minute To Go

10- It's Going To Get Better (Single B-Side) (Bonus)
11- Hip Shaker (Bonus)
12- Too Many Rock'N'Roll Times (Bonus)

Bang - Bang [1971]

Bang was a US hard rock / early metal group highly influenced by Black Sabbath. The Florida trio also payed hommage to Cream, Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin and it shows in their songs. Some great early psych/metal guitar work, and mighty drumming. Very awesome sounding owing to the likes of Ted Nugent and the Amboy Dukes with a touch of psychedelia . Their self-titled LP was released in 1971.

Captain Beyond - Captain Beyond [1972]

Captain Beyond Singer Rod Evans (formally of Deep Purple), guitarist Larry "Rhino" Rheinhardt, bassist Lee Dorman (both from Iron Butterfly), and drummer Bobby Caldwell (from the Johnny Winters group) give you some indication of what this band will sound like - hard rock with a progressive complex song structure and strong musical dynamic. Pretty hard-rocking most all the way through, but in a pretty mainstream Blue Oyster Cult sort of way. If your really into popular classic hard rock, then you'll dig this Masterpiece!

Rock n roll presents:

1. Dancing Madly Backwards (On a Sea of Air)
2. Armworth
3. Myopic Void

Yesterday's Children - Yesterday's Children [1969]

This elegant CD reissues the sole album by this obscure Connecticut group who recorded this one LP and a classic psychedelic garage punk single which appears on the Psychedelic Unknowns compilation. The group was led by brothers Denis Croce on guitar and Richard Croce on vocals, and Chuck Maher and Ralph Muscatelli on bass and drums.
